Social Networking: Goodreads

Acquired by Amazon in 2013, Goodreads is the world’s largest site for book recommendations suggested by readers. Readers can create their own lists, groups of book suggestions and discussion.

Through their author program, and writer can create a profile and with that interact with fans, gain new followers, hold contests, gather book reviews, promote their books and participate in online chats.

Through the use of the online chats, contests, giveaways and general one-on-one interaction any author can successfully build their online fan base community. Writer fans are just like any other kind of fan the music, television or movies with wanting to get close to their favorite writers anyway they can.

The successful contests on the Goodreads website require plenty of author and fan participation. Content can include trivia questions about the book, the author, or anything else the writer wants to include. They are very popular because everyone loves to get something for free.

Book reviews are provided by the website membership. Anyone who signs up for a free account has the opportunity to review books they have read as long as they do so honestly.

Goodreads lists book promotions or events in a database a member can search by city, state, or country. Entries list the event date, time, location and whether it’s an author appearance or something else.

Just like other social networking online sites, Goodreads provides authors and leader fans the opportunity to have private chats. It’s an opportunity for the author to get to know his or her fans and what they like and dislike. Sometimes authors even use the chats as an opportunity to find out what his or her fans are looking for in future novels.

If you do not have a Goodreads account you might want to check out their website.
